rudder pin

Post by rogerssp »

My original rudder pin, that keeps the rudder from kicking up, has stress fractured. I know that many hard bottom folks use softer than stock pins. I sail in the ocean and soft bottoms so the pin occasionally gets bent on grounding but does no harm to the rudder. I cannot find a source for the 4" pin with one end drilled for a cotter ring and the other with a spring mounted ball for quick release. I have a stainless bolt and air craft nut to keep me sailing but sooner or later I will drop the bolt when kicking it up at the dock.

Any suggestions on sources?

Rudder pins

Post by Tom Elsen »

Hi Spence
Annapolis Performance Sailing has a quite a few 'Quick Pins'. They might be able to order a longer size for you. (The longest they stock is a 2" grip length. If not ask what the J22s use for their mast plate pin. I believe it is a pin not a bolt.
Best wishes,
Tom

I have purchased the very pin, just can't remember if it was from Fawcett or APS,2 years ago, I also keep a wood dowel onboard, 101 uses, measure the fuel level and so forth.

We use a Bic Stic pen. Cheap and easily replaced.
