Genoa Lead Cars
My genoa lead cars are in pretty sad condition. I need to replace them and was wondering what people have used and where they purchased them. I bought a set of Schaeffer 32-77 but they don't fit. I am looking for the type which lets you run more than one line. Is there an advantage to putting 4 new ones on so they don't have to be moved much?
Quinn,
The sheeves in ours were gouged and rope burned, so we discussed options with the Sheafer rep at the Sail show in Chicago last winter. He suggested we send them in for new sheeves since the slides and pivots were still OK. We did that at a cost of about $50 per car. They ended up giving us complete new pivots and sheeves in black aluminum. If you have 1" track and a new set of Shaefer Twin Lead blocks from Sailnet will run you about $110.84 each.

Quinn,
We just replaced the delron sheaves this summer. We have 4 cars, and we picked the worst 2 and sent them to Shaefer to get them repaired (kept the other two to use). The cost was $60 some per (maybe more since it was in season?), and it took about a week and a half from when I mailed the package to when they were at my doorstep. Well worth it instead of buying new!
We keep the old two up by the shroudes for the No. 3 useage. We probably won't replace them since we don't use the No. 3 as often as #1 or 2 gib.

I measured the track for the 3rd time and it is 1" X 1/8". Scheaffer assured me that I measured wrong and that it was really 3/16". I tried the 32-77 cars again and they are a few thousanths from fitting. I can get them started but they get tight quickly. Looks like I will have the old one rebuilt but it would be nice to get another pair and put the old ones up front for the jib.

correction, the SWL is 2000lbs - not 200!sycmcsa wrote:I found that Garhauer LLC-1UB fit the old track perfect. These are low profile single lead cars but they do make a twin lead and stand-up blocks version as well. They have a SWL of 200lbs and are ball brearing.
I was very impressed with the quality and price of the Garhauer. $46.59 each.

GENOA LEAD CARS
IF YOUR RACING PHRF, I RECOMMEND YOU GO TO SCHAEFER'S ADJUSTABLE CAR SYSTEM. THEY'RE GREAT AND PERFORM SMALL ADJUSTMENTS BETTER THAN STANDARD TRACK CARS.
