Spreader Boot

Post by Stef »

Any recommendation on a spreader boot? I had just been taping the hell out of it for years. Since a have redone the mast I'd like to put something that fits. Noticed Taylor made SB-11 online, seemed like a good fit?

Personally, I don't really like spreader boots because the material they are made from actually has a tendency to hang on sails and they degrade in UV fairly quickly. Some good old self amalgamating rigging tape around the shroud/spreader tip area and a Harken shroud roller on top has mush less tendency to hang up and last longer. I use another wrap of the same tape just above the roller to keep it from rising too far under stress, exposing the spreader tip to the sail.

i also avoid spreader boots, for the same reasons as Dave, and they also can retain and hide water, dirt, and grime that can lead to an early de-rigging situation.
