Hi Guys,
I have been racing my 7.9 GS for about 5 years I live in Jacksonvile and I new to the forum. There are only two other 7.9s on the St John's and we rarely cross paths so we dont have a group. Anyway my crew of the 'Supper Club' race in the Mug Race each year, the worlds longest river race. The 7.9 (albeit with a better captain can definitely win this race in class as the common winds are out of the south and the race is due north for 48 miles (we averaged 5.35 kts last year in 15 kts of wind blowing directly North). Pull the dagger, set the chute and go. One nice part of this race, depending on hangover level is they know how fast the S2 is so you get to sleep in while 400 of the other boats go off early in the AM, the 7.9 is about the only monohull left amongst the Cats at the start gate after 9am... it can get tricky passing several hundred boats with the keel up...
If you are in the area it is a blast and I wanted to get the word out in case anyone in the forums wanted to race next year. I can provide a place to moor your 7.9 or store your boat on the trailer and can also come up with some experienced J-24 crew if you are short a few.
