Ford Yacht Club Regatta - August 11th

Ford Yacht Club, located on the island of Grosse Ile in Michigan, will be hosting its 55th Regatta this year and celebrating its 65th anniversary.

Right now we have 4 local S2 7.9s that can race and it will only take 1 more to give us our own class and start.... I know there are a few 7.9s sitting in Toledo, Monroe, Sandusky, and even up the river. We race on Saturday and after the race there is a great party with a band, activities for kids and adults, dinner, and much more. The race itself is usually around 8 or 9 miles long and takes place in Lake Erie off the sandy Canadian shoreline.

Also, a couple weeks before this regatta, Grosse Ile Yacht Club will be hosting its Downriver Race/Leukemia Cup Regatta on 7/28/2012. This is an awesome race down the Detroit River. It starts up at Belle Isle and ends just in front of Grosse Ile Yacht Club. Only race that you get to sail between Detroit and Windsor, under the Ambassador Bridge, by historic steel mills, and dodge freighters. Enough S2s show up and we can get a one design class.
