Ballast Material in the Daggerboard
Anyone know what was used in the daggerboards for ballast? I'm hoping lead and not some type of corrosive metal that will expand if there is water intrusion.

Re: Ballast Material in the Daggerboard
There's a slab of lead molded into the lower portion of the board. The rest is foam, wrapped in glass. The glass skins were made in halves so there is a seam along the leading, trailing edge, and bottom. (Just like the rudder). Sometimes these seams can open up, making the board hard to raise. There is a lot of discussion on this including a picture somewhere.
Re: Ballast Material in the Daggerboard
I have an S2 6.9. I appreciate 7.9 class allowing me to share your forum. I hit a Shoal with the keel. I could see the front of the Keel was damaged. I was not able to see further up the Keel in the back. Now that I have the Keel out, the entire back side of the Keel has split along the mold lines. Has anybody had experience with this sort of thing happening without hitting a Shoal. I'm having a hard time figuring out if that split at the back is related to the Shoal hit on the front. Any thoughts?
