Has anyone had this problem: a 6 inch vertical crack on the front of the keel about 6 inches below the hull. Any suggestions on how to fix it.

It's not all that uncommon. Depending on the circumstances, not too tough to fix. Have you done any more examination of the problem, or just observed the crack?
What's your hull #, where's your boat, where's it stored for the winter?

It is hull number 476, stored outside, on a cradle, in MI.
The area within a 1/2 inch of the crack seems damaged by water.

Assuming that it's not already frozen, the best thing you can do for right now is to open up that area so that it can dry out. If it (the daggerboard material) is already frozen then there's not much you can do until spring.
If you do open it up, take out as much of the wet material as you can. It's impossible to tell how much that will be until you get into it. When you're done, you'll likely have a pretty good gouge out of the board.
Is the boat covered? You'll need to prevent any rain / run off from re-soaking the area.
For the repair next Spring, are you doing it yourself? Have you worked with epoxy before? It's not too tough.

I will probably wait until spring, I have never worked on fibreglass under the water line, so this will be a little new. Is there anything special about appling epoxy to a leaded keel? Hopefully approx. 3 weeks and a heat lamp will be long enough to dry out the area. Thanks for your help.
