Traveler Issues

Post by orion27 »

I'm finding the main traveler set up on my boat unsatisfactory. The traveler
hits the mainsheet block as it travels from side to side. The base of the block is set aft of the traveler which makes it inconvenient in that it's optimum for the helmsman but impractical for anyone sitting forward of the traveler to trim effectively. I'm considering a windward traveler. Anyone consider the standard traveler arrangement better than a windard traveler?

O,
We have done both switching the traveler to a windward sheeting car from Harken and shifted the fixed lower block of the main sheet system to the forward side of the traveler. Our main trimmer is so very pleased with this that he started buying a couple cases of beer for the season.
