Spreaders

Post by Tom Line »

In setting the mast down on the ground we managed to severely bend one of the spreaders. In unbending it (even heated the silly thing first) it developed a hairline crack in the aluminum right at the first screw.

Where can we pick up replacement spreaders, and does anyone have a rough $$$ guestimate?

Spreaders

Post by Tom Elsen »

Hey Tom

I got a couple (a few years ago) from Offshore. $150 at that time. If that doesn't work perhaps call the guys who are building our new masts. NEWJSI in Tampa / St Pete.
Best wishes,
Tom

Ouch. Offshore wants $250 a pair. I'm waiting on a callback from NewJSI.

I spoke with NewJSI as well. They want $365 a pair for new spreaders, and $100 to rework the current.

To rework them, they bend them back to a reasonable semblance of shape then grind the cracks, fill them with weld, and grind the weld clean. Then they paint the spreaders. They've done 5 sets in recent weeks.

I had my spreaders redone by JSI because they had cracks in them. He did a real nice job. Cost me $145. But I had them overnighted because we were going to the Annapolis NOOD.
